We have been slowly remodeling the woodwork (one project at a time) in their home to reflect Mission style architecture. The look of a staircase's newel post is very important when thinking about wooden staircase designs.
Here is the old staircase we were to replace. The newel post is rather small and lacking any detail... and the spindles (called balusters) are 'turned' (on a lathe) which is not the look we wanted.

I like the look but I was disappointed that you did not include the parallel piece below the handrail. I think that that detail was needed. Really nice execution.

I don't disagree, McKay / client opted to go without it / would have been some work but worth it
