For convenience and efficiency, these cabinetmakers build
the toe kick and the main cabinet as separate pieces. They
explain the why and how of it here.

If your client is open to the rustic look, knotty alder
may be just the ticket. Finishers offer tips and tricks
for dealing with alder's busy grain, knots, and tendency
to blotch.

Need a good helper that won't talk back? Whether you buy
one or go to the trouble of making your own, a nice
cabinet jack will make you wonder how you used to get
along without it.

In a slow market, can you make money sawing railroad ties?
This informal analysis sheds some light on what it takes
to turn a profit.

What's causing terrible cut quality with only the second
use of a set of shaper knives? This cabinetmaker is
dismayed. The resulting discussion leads into various
aspects of door profile machining, and may put an edge
back into his cuts.

The creatively inclined client may be disappointed to hear
that their one-of-a-kind entry door design could actually
be a recipe for disaster. Nonetheless, it's important to

dream door (and your nightmare job) self-destruct when
exposed to the elements.

an article on uses for low grade lumber. If you've
developed ways to utilize lower grades of lumber, please

product and its installation, but when it comes to the
final details - completing the punch list - he gets a

Microvellum, Inc. announced the donation of their full
software suite to St. Mary’s Academy and College, a
private school in Kansas with over 190 high school
students attending. Presently, they serve their students
with two technology education courses: Drafting I, which
covers manual drafting, and Drafting II, which is a CAD
course. Beginning 2009, St. Mary’s is expanding their
curriculum to incorporate a Manufacturing Enterprise:
Custom Cabinet Making sequence, a design and production
