Low volume shop in the market for a used bander and looking for advice. Require pre-mill. Prefer a corner round too, but not mandatory. Mostly running 0.5 to 2mm pvc/abs on melamine or pre-finished. Sometimes 1.5-2mm wood on veneer panels. Usually 19-25mm thickness, but occasionally up to 50.
I have used SCM, Format, and HolzHer. The Holzher I used was a 1054 from around 2016. I liked the Glue-Jet better than the other pot systems. The quick heat up and low maintenance are valuable in a small shop with only a couple people.
In the used market (at a price point under $25k) I don't see many desirable Holzhers, but I see a ton of Brandts. I know Brandt has a great reputation, but I'm not interested in the time lost cleaning a glue pot, if we can avoid it. The Holzhers tend to be too old (pre-2004), without pre-mill, or fairly new (post-2016) with price tags usually well over $50k.
There are a couple HolzHer Triathlons (1487/88) on the market (2004/5 - see link). They list the Granu-Press glue system which I have not used. I think it's a vertical hopper that feeds granulated pellets into a similar heating element as the Glue-Jet... can someone verify and help me understand the differences between the two?
Will cartridges also work with the Granu-Press, or is it strictly granulated?
Are the heating and mechanical elements of the nozzle delivery the same in both systems?
Is Granu-Press also highly reliable and low maintenance?
Is there any reason Granu-Press is not a good choice for a low volume custom shop?
