Mirka DEROS - which size/orbit for cab doors?

My air sanders are getting tired, and I'm thinking about switching to the brushless electric. I haven't used them before and am wondering about what you would choose for size and orbit to try one out. It would be for both flat panel prep and finished doors for cross grain removal on rails and stiles.

The bigger orbit. 5mm?

The smaller orbit is good for finish, but you'll be disappointed sanding wood.

I like 5" sanders, but it's just what I'm used to. No other reason than that.

Deros now only offers 1 orbit width. 5" probably more versatile for that application. We have 2 ceros and 1 deros running 8 hours a day 5 days a week. Ceros, 6 years, deros 3 years.

We use Dynabrade, 5" - 3/16" orbit for 120 grit and 3/32 for 180 grit.

3/32 orbit on lower grits would take forever.

JR, got anyone around you where you can try them out?

I used a Ceros for about 5 minutes and knew whether it was for me or not. The shop next door to my old space got one, and I asked to try it out.

I think if you call the distributor and asked for a demo unit you could arrange it. We have done that with many hand tools over the years.

I may try to demo those sanders to see what they are about. We have an excellent air system and have never felt the need.

Our of curiosity I researched the Deros sander. The website states it is a 3/16" or 5mm orbit. I'll confess I never tried to finish sand with a 3/16" orbit.

There is no trouble with that?
