Yes, this is an edgebander question in the CNC forum. Seems like the people who know higher level banders best are in this forum more. Posted a similar question elsewhere and didn't get much feedback.
We are a 4-5 man shop that does both Faceframe and frameless. Our frameless is 95% 1 mil wood tape. Because of that the bander will sometimes get used for a week and then sometimes sit idle for a week. It's also not uncommon for us to turn it on to only run 2 panels that got missed or screwed up. Our old Holzher with the puck system is very nice with the fast heat up time and not cooking the glue too much.
That machine needs to be replaced and I'm looking at a new Holzher and a Biesse. I've never had a glue pot. Given the parameters above are we better off sticking with the puck system? We generally use "natural" color and rarely change colors. the glue pot has a 10 min. heat up time which doesn't seem horrible. It also goes to standby and lowers the glue temp after some idle period. HH has reportedly improved the Glujet system since our old machine and dealt with what we considered the more annoying traits of it.
