We operate a manufacturing plant for custom wood flooring. On site we have a smaller hydraulic band mill and a 500 series nyle kiln that holds around 15k of 4/4. In trying to get more green on-stick our fluted stacking sticks are running low. However, in manufacturing custom wood flooring we have a fair amount of KD straight line rips at 1 3/8" - 2 1/4" - white oak, hickory, ash, soft maple and some red oak. Would imagine we have close to 4k bdft of this material.
We can not yet find a buyer for the material nor will we just give it away, chip it or burn it. Instead of buying more fluted stacking sticks, for green lumber, has anyone ever taken hickory or oaks and put through a moulder to manufacture a stacking stick? I found a stick that looks like it would work and tried to tell weinig what to make for a profile. The drawing they came up with looks like it will work. I told them to put 1/16" radius where the contact of wood will be made. Has anyone ever made stacking sticks like this or have any suggestions to the profile in the attached drawing (the one on left not right)? Thanks.
