24" Drum Sander Add-on to help with dust

Listing #37   Listed on: 05/14/2011

We were having problems with the dust collector picking up all the sawdust. So we thought for a while and found that if you blew air on the panel that it would pick up all the dust. Check out the before and after picture of how well it works. This is about the cheapest and easiest way to go that i have found. We took an air valve to adjust the amount of air flow blowing on the panel and connected it to a piece of copper pipe. We drilled small holes in the pipe to blow down on the wood coming out of the sander. It works really well for us. Any questions feel free to email me.

Great solution! I've seen several large wide belt sanders with compressed air manifolds like yours. I do wonder though about the amount of suction your dust collector is producing. I've got a 24" dual drum sander connected to my Onieda Cyclone with 2 5" pipes and things come out clean as can be.

Your doors are nie looking too!

Yeah our dust collector is an old 2hp grizzly. We took off the bags and just use the blower motor on it. We connected that to a gravity box and a farmer comes and takes the sawdust away. Its under powered and there are plenty of other ways but this way we dont have to keep changing barrels or bags.

Where does it blow the dust to?

Seems like good alternative, will try this and report back.

Reporting back and it worked not bad at all. Nice little additional solution with a dust collector to the combat a woody's enemy...dust.

I also have a 24" dual drum sander, and a 2 hp. dust collector. I changed the pick up manifold to take a 6" hose, and replaced the cloth filter with a canister to improve the air flow... but still not quite enough dust removal. I will try this trick. how big are the holes in the pipe? and how many are there?
