Ash and mahogany pedestal table

Listing #2114 Listed on: 05/31/2009 Name: John Member

54" pedestal table. Ash veneer field with stained mahogany border. High gloss polyester finish... that's what she wanted, and I thought it came out looking great. Just glad it won't be in my house with two little kids...

Nice work. Just one question, What's with the golf clubs in the background? Who has time for that?

lol. What you can't see is the 1/4" of dust on those golf clubs... Who can afford it these days.

How did you stain the border with out staining the ash??? Look like a crisp edge.

That was the one reservation I had when designing this table. My finisher assured me he could do it, and he did a fantastic job.
This is how he did it. Give the entire table a thinned down hide glue wash. Then tape off the ash field as crisply as possible. Then give the mahogany another thinned down hide glue wash. Then stain the mahogany.
The way that works is that any bleeding under the tape is done by the hide glue, and that creates a barrier to keep the stain from bleeding into the ash...
