Portable furniture clamp
Started working on this HEAVY son-o-gun -- VERY rusty got it to move (the clamp)and still broke the shaft had to get it welded = lost 1 “ in travel of the clamp. If any one ever runs in to something like this try to push up the sliding part first and get kroil into it. I tried to slide it.. all I would have had to do is jack it up the movable plate.
it would have came loose..
Any tips on how to preserve and keep the ways from rusting.
I plan on making a table top for it and use it as a bench and if I ever need it = take the top off.

Have you considered using a 4 1/2 grinder with a 5/8-11 thread wire cup brush, after letting some oil or penetrate soak in.This will also keep the dust down but make it a bit messy.Wear a full face shield and be careful NOT to catch the left edge of the brush on a corner.I would highly recommend using both hands.
Afterwords a dry lubricant on the ways.

Thats a Hoss you got there. it will be a very handy tool for big projects. I myself would media bast it and have it powder coated, all but the clamp screw and clamp surface.
