This table was built from an elm tree that had Dutch Elm disease. It belonged to a friend, she called one day and asked if I wanted the log, I said sure-having no idea what I was in for.
That said, it was a treat. This is beautiful wood, I'm not sure why nobody uses it. My friend is a furniture designer, and we worked together on the design. It is 39x80x1.5 finished with oil and wax.

Elm is said to be a difficult wood with which to work. Did you have any issues?
The only issues I had were an occasional piece of metal burried in there since it was a city tree.It doesn't work like mahogany, but it wasn't terribly difficult.
Finally built a table with elm as well. Dried crazy. It took 3" slabs and multiple passes with a joiner to get them to a usable 2". Beautiful figure.
It is great stuff, I like a lot. Did a cabinet in Siberian Elm, amazing color in there.
