Wood Choice For Exterior Cabinets

07/10/2012

From original questioner:

We need to build some exterior painted cabinets to go on patio, it will be covered but has some exposure. What woods would be a good choice, interior to be prefinished maple plywood?

I've used " exteria" It is an exterior mdf. Have done two sets of outdoor bar cabinetry. With no issues after two years.
you can finish it the same as wood products.
It gets used in painted exterior rp doors.
It clear coats with spar varnish to a nice brown color.

You could use MDO known as sign board it is impervious to the weather in exterior applications .

For solids perhaps Sapele ?

I think maple plywood would be the best as it is water resistant and you get many good colors and varieties of it. After all exterior cabinets need to be water resistant and durable. I had bought it few months ago at quite an affordable price.
