Any comments or recommendations on a 2008 biesse rover 3.40 nesting machine with 23000 hrs on it? Is it worth buying?

I'd call Biesse and ask them what the life cycle with typical maintenance is.

I recently bought a used coping machine. I panicked when I powered it up, it had done 1,700,000 operations. I called the company, they said it has a lot of life left. But..... that's not as complicated a machine as a cnc.

I'd be scared at 23000 hours. That's ten years running 40 hours a week.

23000 hours may only be "on" time, not cutting time. There is a big difference. Biesse's seem to age fast. Make sure there is support for an elderly machine. I have been down that road with a different Italian company. The software evolves so much over the years, that I was left in a position where only 1 tech was vaguely familiar with what I was running. He had already left the company, but they were happy to give me an email address. My advice with older machines, is to buy something that has a stable control that everyone knows, by that I mean Fanuc. From my picture of the my oldest machine that still runs great, the "on time is almost 50000 but the cutting time is less than 10000. That machine was new in 2003. Good luck.

Actually, it's really cool that it has a lot of axes.
But I work with a multi-spindle milling machine Wattsan M3 1325, the same as a combine, processes material quickly in different ways. This is amazing cnc machine. You have 8 tools (and there are 4 to 12) that increase your production speed. You don't lose time changing machines, tools, programs.

Let's say you're making a door: one cutter does one depth, a second one does another, a third one makes the holes, and a fourth cutter cuts the door out completely.
It's convenient and it's fast.

Electronics and software evolve at a rapid rate....As mentioned above call Biesse there are a lot of manufactures out there that will not support you unless you upgrade to the latest and greatest software. Which can at times be thousands of dollars for that upgrade.

Recommendations: If your systems is operating through XP or 7 have that drive cloned (not copied but cloned) at least 2 drives and put them someplace safe.

If you are deciding on a used machine 10 or more years, call the manufacturer if the manufacture has been bought by another manufacturer, no longer exist or has left the market....Those are red flags that regardless of how great of a deal and you are not planning on retrofitting the motion controls.......STAY AWAY unless you plan on donating it to a local lake for a artificial reef.

depends on what theyre asking. and if it was properly maintained, I sold a Biesse rover 7.40 (2005) that was properly maintained, but even there the years catch up and stuff fails, also if the computer ever decides to bite the dust Biesse will have you over a barrel for sure. Whn you get into those years its tricky
