The workbench has been completely restored by a professional woodworker, but leaving small scars and signs of use. The base is new, in order to make it very sturdy, using the traditional draw bolts which can easily be tightened over time. It is of hard maple, and dimensions are beefier than the other European benches I have seen. The really special features are the wooden screws for the two vises, 2-1/4" in diameter; they are not only cool and interesting, but also much faster to use than steel screws. The top has been re-milled to be dead flat. This bench is both attractive and valuable for the history, but also highly usable to contemporary woodworkers. Includes two bench stops, and the original bronze Hammacher Schlemmer medallions, which function as washers for the vises.
