Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to lead and manage procurement activities focused on wood, metal, and hardware materials. The ideal candidate will bring deep industry knowledge, strong supplier negotiation skills, and a proven ability to secure quality materials at competitive pricing. This position plays a key role in ensuring supply chain efficiency and supporting the company’s production and construction goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Source, negotiate, and procure wood, metal, and hardware materials for manufacturing, construction, or production projects.
Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, evaluate vendor performance, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Review and analyze material specifications and project needs to ensure accurate purchasing decisions.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and inventory teams to ensure material availability and quality standards are met.
Monitor market trends, pricing, and lead times to mitigate risk and avoid supply chain disruptions.
Manage purchase orders, contracts, and documentation in accordance with company policies and compliance requirements.
Track and report on key purchasing metrics, including cost savings, delivery performance, and inventory levels.
Support strategic sourcing initiatives and assist in onboarding new vendors and materials.
Resolve supplier issues including delivery delays, quality discrepancies, and invoicing errors.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred.
5+ years of experience in a purchasing or procurement role, with at least 2 years focused on wood, metal, and hardware sourcing.
Strong knowledge of wood types (e.g., hardwood, softwood, plywood), metal grades
(e.g., steel, aluminum, copper), and common hardware (e.g., fasteners, hinges, brackets).
Proven negotiation and vendor management skills.
Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and material specifications.
Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
Experience working in manufacturing, construction, or related industries is a strong plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
CPM, CPSM, or APICS certification.
Experience with sustainability practices or sourcing FSC-certified wood.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing or just-in-time (JIT) inventory practices.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
