Position Summary
The Finish Department Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the finishing department, ensuring all products meet company quality standards and are completed on schedule. This role drives workflow efficiency across all finishing stages, from prep through final cure, while leading and developing a high-performing team.
Core Responsibilities
Production Management
• Plan, schedule, and prioritize finishing work to meet production deadlines
• Coordinate closely with Plant Manager and bench team to maintain alignment
• Ensure seamless workflow between sanding, staining, spraying, and other processes
Throughput & Efficiency
• Monitor daily production output and adjust staffing or workflow as needed
• Identify bottlenecks and implement timely solutions to maintain production flow
• Maintain consistent throughput while upholding quality standards
Team Leadership
• Supervise finishing team members and assign daily responsibilities
• Train and mentor employees on finishing techniques, safety, and best practices
• Hold team accountable for productivity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail
Quality Control (Execution Level)
• Ensure all finishes match approved samples and client specifications
• Inspect work throughout the process to identify and correct defects early
• Enforce proper preparation, sanding, and finishing standards
Equipment & Booth Oversight
• Maintain spray booths and finishing equipment in clean, safe, and operational condition
• Coordinate routine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues as they arise
Success Criteria
• On-time completion of finishing schedules
• Weekly production throughput
• Reduction in rework due to finishing defects
• Labor efficiency and team productivity
Required Skills & Experience
• Strong hands-on experience with wood finishing, including spray systems, stains, and topcoats
• Proven leadership experience in a production or manufacturing environment
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
Salary: $85K - $110K Annual Salary commensurate
