I, got 2 tries to post this thread and I still didn't get it right but anyways I tried to post the drawings and the photo for this piece and the captions should read; I do the drawings and you do the building.

What does a set of drawings like this cost?
Posted By: | Tele |
David;
You are giving me really loaded questions. The cost will vary depending on who designs the piece and what needs to be drawn but to answer your question the drawings you see would run $750. If I design it then it will be more, about 70 percent more. My next post to the gallery will be something I designed. That is if I'm still welcome.

Telecad - Wht software do you use for this? Will it work for anything? I do custom and all jobs are different. What file will it output? Can you go from these plans to a CNC without too much headache?

Arthur; I use Fastcad in a FCW format and I can input and output to formats; EMF,BMP,DWG, and DXF. FCAD is a raster format. More info at www.fastcad.com I use it because it is a solid drawing format with very small file size and allows for custom registry setups and you can create your own macros and external procedures and the catalog is no bigger than a small paperback. The learning curve is not so steep and much faster than most. The new V7 is 3D but the jury is still out on that one. Most of us still use V6 and there is an excellent discussion forum and lots of add-ons to get a nice customized product for only $700 and free updates for life.

Telecad-Those look like good drawings to me, though I can't make out all the detail at this scale. What is the back of the section that houses the TV? I use Turbocad that is also a lower end product. Alas my company only has an 11x17 printer, the large size is an excellent ide, and we can always tile the pages. On the other hand we dont normally tackle the level of detail in this piecs. I encourage you to continue to post, this is interesting. Do you only design and draw? thanks

Toby; Thank you. Yes, I do the designing and drafting. If you are interested in the drawings in their native scale, then you can download the FREE viewer at https://fastcad.com/n-view7.html
and then I can send you full scaled drawings that you can search and zoom etc.
The space that you see behind the Tv is behind the lower cabinets which did not need to be 30" deep so above the lower cabs is a Tv platform board that is braced on a wall cleat to handle the 280 pound Tv.

TeleCad, Appears to be a fine set of well organized drawings. Nice.
Is the TV a Mitsubishi ? I did one a couple of years ago, kinda fun trying to get that odd shaped panel under the screen incorperated into the cabinet design to where it looked like it belonged and still allow the tv to be pulled out for service (built in cabinet)
Like your title block layout also,

You know Jerry? After awhile all those big screens become the same and I would have to look it up to tell you the Model #.
What I have learned is. I don't have anyone give me any dimensions for the electronoics. I just ask for a signed invoice from the electronics salesman with a list of the model #'s for all the electronics that the customer bought. Then I go to the electronics mfg's web site and get all of my own dimensions for the box and cut outs. This way the salesman is happy not faxing me a bunch of dimensions that I can't read and the customer can't switch because they already paid for them. This way everybody is happy. (less mistakes).

Yeah, I do it the same way as I found to my regret that the ibfo I got from the salesman was out of date ( a couple of inches) and the cabinet had to be rebuilt. I paid to get that done as it was my fault for not checking with the factory for the latest infoOh well, what ya goin' to do ?
Please don't bother looking up the TV #, It just struck me as being familiar(sp?).
How's the weather out there ?
We're having an early summer here in S.F. Calif.

I have excellent relations with the audio and appliance people. I don't cause them any kind of work or trouble and they treat me well and call me back with great comments after they install the goods in my cabinets.
The weather here is just beautifull. The only problem is it will not stay this way.
