Company Name: High Desert Guitar WorksThis is my latest design for my mandolins. The purpose of this shape is to reach a new generation of mandolin players with more modern and sophisticated tastes, while still retaining the inner dimensions and therefore, sound of the outdated but beloved F5.

Jason,
Unless mandolins are much different from guitars, I would seriously reconsider making them for a living. I'm contemplating making a guitar for personal use and I just got started reading a book about it. You will almost certainly NOT make money doing it. The book author strongly stresses this point in the beginning. In fact, unless you can mass produce, you could easily lose money when you calculate all the hidden costs as well as labor, even if it's your own labor. I thought about your post when reading this. Look into MUCH deeper before jumping in.

Kevin, Thank you for your response to my post. I appreciate your concern for my well being, although, I have nearly a decade in the industry as well as a lifetime of playing and buying instruments. I have built many hundreds of instruments for a prominant company from beginning to end. Over the last few years I have been developing my own design concepts and production techniques and never have an instrument left over to call my own. They always seem to be sold before I finish. As with any industry, if you try to enter it without experience you will be disapointed. The author is trying to warn those who would be drawn to the musical instrument industry because it seems romantic. It can be, but when it comes down to it, it's hard, dusty work. I wish you the best of luck, and would advise you to gain as much experience as you can before you become an expert in any endeavor you persue.
