I designed and built a twin set of personal cabinets that showcase the advantages of veneered MDF.
The size is 63" tall by 23" wide, on a human scale that is functional within a master bedroom space. The case is veneered with curly maple inside and out and has a 1.5" wide solid sugar maple edge banding for durability. The doors are solid sugar maple rail and stile with .250" book matched curly maple veneered MDF panels. Supporting leg/case frame is solid black walnut. Details are Bocote door inlay, carved handles and crown element, wedged mortis and tenons and maple peg fasteners. Hardware is Brusso offset pivot hinges and Accuride soft close drawer glides. The doors have small super magnets (recessed between shelf and door) hidden behind felt pads that give the closure silky smooth and quiet operation. Finish is Danish oil and paste wax.
