Great sketchup, great project. How long did it take you to sketchup the plans? Also, where is the snow in the sketchup drawing?
Thanks Geoff. I had between 16 to 20 hours in drawing the plans as I am still on the sketchup learning curve. I started to draw the snow but it became tedious coming up with a new pattern for each flake. !)
Great deck Alex. Just what we were thinking of doing on our new house. How did you form your rails and what are they made of?
Thanks Rick. I used a built-up form and a really big ratchet strap to clamp six 1/4" layers of treated pine . Flush trimmed them right on the form, jointed, planed, rough cut the caps, attached them to the rails and then flush cut the caps using the rails as a form with my largest bearing on a 1/2" diam. flush bit wich left me 7/16" overhang all around.I glued with titebond 3 after reading all I could find in the woodweb knowledge base about adhesion to treated wood. I soaked one of the rail offcuts in a bucket for a month with no delamination, my sample is now frozen but I will check it again in the spring. --Alex
Did you use google sketch up? if so was it the professional model or the free version
I used the free version of sketchup 6 for the deck last fall, now I'm working with sketchup 7 free version.
