Cypress Pergola

Listing #2061 Listed on: 04/27/2009 Name: Anthony Tauscher

Pulled the cypress logs out of the swamp. Used my homemade saw mill to cut into some 4x12's, 2x8's, and some 8x8 columns. Used 6 gallons of 5 yr penetrating oil.

I put two 4x12's together fixing the splice with a 2x12 on both sides of the 4x12's using (12) 1/2" carriage bolt making the length 20ft.

Built the top on the ground and used a crane to lift and set onto the columns. It took 13 logs about 10-20" dia.

This is the beginning of our out door kitchen. Please comment

Look great!!! We are planning on building a pergola later this summer. We cannot get any cypress at this time.Would you recommend cypress over treated lumber? My husband says cypress is the best.Thank you
I live in Ar.Where it is very wet at this time.

Did you consider cedar over cypress or the the decision to go with cypress based on the fact you had access to the logs?

Also, did you do any drying to the cypress?

Thanks...it looks good.
