Client found this idea from a 1940's American Rifleman mag. One small picture was all he had. I used the plans from a popular woodworking mag, and modified them to my needs. Unit breaks down into 2 pieces so it can be moved. Top part has 2 regular pull out drawers. They are foam filled and covered in velvet to protect the firearms. Bottom drawer looks like regular pull out drawers. The fronts drop down, and then you can pull out the drawers. I also made the racks the rifles sit in, and lined them with velvet also to ensure the rifles do not get scratched. Drawers also all lock to keep out the kids and the honest folks. So if you have company and it is locked it looks like a large dresser.

That is a very cleaver design and execution. When filled that must weigh a "ton". How many weapons can it hold total? Very nice job!
I really like it. Is there are reason that the hinge cup holes are drilled in the cabinet vs. the "drawer" fronts? Nice job!
Thanks for the comments. Yes the cabinet weighs a ton.
I believe it held 18 rifles, and what ever you wanted for pistols, ammo, or knives in the top 2 drawers. It had to be wide enough to hold a Springfield trapdoor 45/70. Long rifle.
I believe I did the hinges that way so when they were open all the hardware was thrown out of the way below the drawers so they could slide free.
I guess I'm wondering why bother doing hinged fronts with drawers inside....Would it have made any difference to put the fronts on the drawers?...if so wouldn't it be easier to put heavy drawer slides?
It is a nice job buddy, I'm not diminishing the effort you made.. just wondering why
I could not agree more. The client wanted it to work the same way the piece was shown in the old picture. So that is the way I had to make it.
If the hinges were opposite you could not click the hinge release clip to remove the drawer front without removing the drawer first
What did you charge for the piece? What where the dimensions?
I have someone who wants the same thing, only with sturdier locks.
I will get the dimensions for you in the next couple of days. Swapped right now. Can't remember a price. Most likely NOT enough.
This is a great setup. If I could I would like the dimensions for it.
Beautiful! Where can I get the plans for this item?
Can I get the plans for this gun dresser? It's an awesome idea, and I'd love to build it.
I would like the plans for this gun dresser if that's possible.
Plans for this are from the Woodsmith magazine Vol. 21 No. 125. Go to their website and order a copy of the magazine if available. I modified the dresser and turned it into the gun cabinet you see. 57" tall, 62" wide and 23" deep. I just stretched the Woodsmith cabinet into the gun cabinet.
Are you still building these? I would like to order one if possible.
