That would not pass code in my area. Combustibles are to close to the firebox. Does it in your area?

Yes, this is irresponsible considering code. And in a timber frame, nonetheless!
While you are going to the library to research codes, look up Greene and Greene as opposed to Arts and Crafts. G&G were light years ahead of the Stickley 'board and bored' set.

I'm not sure what part some of you think is not up to code? it's all done by the specs of the fire box manufacturer and that's generally what the building inspector go by ! and yes I know about Greene and Greene, I said Arts and Craft STYLE...I'm not pretending on doing a reproduction ...but comments taken.

It's hard to tell from the picture whether this is a wood burner or a gas unit. Looks great either way.
In Ohio eight inches is required for a wood burner while some ventless models are zero tolerance and can have a wood mantle in direct contact. Again, nice job.

I hate the way we have abdicated our freedom to build to the Code thought police. I am thankful I do not live under such mind numbing restrictions! I have built a 1000 sq ft timber frame addition to my home including A&C Fireplace without the blessing of any inspector. It is liberating!
