Company Name: KOL Woodworkshere is a table that I have been working on for the last 3 weeks in my spare time. It is cherry with crotch mahogany door panels, ebony pulls, and purple heart legs and aprons. the top is carved daffodils that I did while watching t.v. I'm looking to sell this piece and am wondering how much I should charge. the top diminsions are 24x20 and the height is 30"

That is pretty awesome. How many total hours and how much in materials do you have in it? I could be low balling it but I would say between $800.00 and $1200.00.

he he. 8-1200 maybe if it was made out of poplar without the carving. Where are you from? You have to remember that this piece has a hand carving, has hand cut dovetails holding the supports under the cabinet to the aprons, etc. The crotch mahogany came out of a sheet that cost over 600 bucks. I even turned the ebony pulls on the lathe. if i had 10 hours into this cabinet I may have said 800 was okay if I charged 80 an hour. but I have at least 10 hours in the carving alone. so between drawing up the design, carving the top, and building the legs and cabinet I would say I have close to 35 hours in the thing. roughly 250 in materials. try again

Kol,
Very nice indeed. Hummm lets see if I can pick a price, yup, I'm thinking thats about $3000/3500 at my studio..
Did you use oil, or lac for the finish?

thanks bill, I used tung oil for the finish. I like the natural wood appearance it gives as well as the depth. I'm not one for any type of gloss finishes. I want to see the wood not myself. I did a cabinet recently for a client that wanted a high gloss. everything reflects off of it. he should have bought a mirror:)I appreciate the response

Sorry if I offended. I am just getting my business off the ground and pricing is not my strongest assett yet. I am in Alabama so not a huge market for high dollar artistic peices. It is truely an awesome peice. Scott

Very nice work Kol.
Bill,
Do you find much demand for pieces like this anymore? I was under the impression that furniture pieces with large quantities of exotics were on the way out, at least up in the northeast. Just curious as to what is selling out there right now.

Jeff,
Mostly folks from inda and such buy would buy this little beauty. I too am in the NE area, so I would have added just a little more for a more contemp look. such as I would have carried the door panel look to the side panels as well, as well as add a 3/8 band of purple heart around the edge of the top, may-be even add a pinstrip circle of PH around the carving.. No offence KOL I alway over kill what I make..

I think the project gallery is becoming my favorite part of woodweb. Beautiful work KOL. What's on the inside?
