These shutters were made for a customer who was using a lot of old growth (reclaimed) heart pine throughout their vacation home. We don't often get customers for shutters that desire this look or have the budget to cover the almost double expense, versus painted or stained basswood shutters. The wood was obtained from old tobacco barns that were being salvaged for the pine. All parts were made in our shop on very basic equipment. The finish is 1 coat of sealer and 2 coats of polyuethane varnish. Due to the high resin content, we feel comfortable with this finish, as it has been used on pine floors in our area for many years.
