Company Name: Molloy StudiosThis bambo mirror was great fun as well as a nightmare to build. Besides the growth ring and the lack of being able to get this stuff all the same size in width I had to find a way to get the bambo to not shrink and expand as rapidly as it does. We also ended up making faux corners because of the different widths. Either way our client loves it and thats all that really matters.

Excellent use of material that is not common place to our trade. Are the bamboo pieces split and mounted somehow. What was the construction method?

Well, I started with a ply base cut for the mirror, primed and painted for bathroom use. Begin with the inside piece first, I cut and installed 1 to 1 1/4" dowels about 10" o/c making sure they did not land in the center of the growth rings. Each piece of bamboo was sealed on the inside with 2 coats (sometimes 3) lac.. then appied to the frame using one hell of a water resistant glue.. Yup thats right NO nails for this job, the bamboo will split if you do... You do this for each lair you put on, the trick is that you have to go back and file out the next piece to fit the groth rings and the piece before it to get a tight fit. Next you have to make faux bamboo corners. Now go and faux paint the to match the rest of the frame. Next cut the corners into each corner making sure they drop to cover the ply as well as the bamboo. I let each lair I glued rest and dry for 4 days.. When you gat it all together you now go back and seal all the joint top and bottom with a silicone called something 2000. If you really want to know the name I will have to go and find it to gat the name.. Sorry.. And finally you have to go back and faux paint the all the gaps you just filled. Now give the hole thing 2 coat of CV 40% shine. I used full lenght Z clips to hang it on the wall..
At this point I must tell you that I made a templet for the guy to use to hang it etc. It took me 4 trys to figure out how to do this so it would hold up in a small steamy ny city bathroom. so far so good and I have one super happy client...
