looks great! butternut is a pleasure to work with as long as the fuzz factor is low.why was it so hard for you to get the wood?do you mean the plywood or the lumber?
Posted By: | Robert Eckles |
AER YOU KIDDING ,THERE IS NO PLYWOOD .ALL THE VENEER WAS VAC PRESED .AND WHEN O PLACED A ORDERD FOR LUMBER I HAD A 60 TO 80 PERSENT WAST FACTOR. SO I TRAVELED TO GRT WAHAT I NEEDED.

looks great.so how much does somehing like that cost?

Robert- there is a lot of lumber in that room! :-)
The job looks great. Is there a finish on that or is it just raw wood?
Posted By: | Robert Eckles |
NOT FINISHED YET .I WAS TOLD IT WILL BE A FRENCH RUB FINISH.
NO MATTER WHAT YOU CHARGE IT IS NEVER ENOUGH.BUTTERNUT IS ON THE ENDANGERED LIST AND WHEN I BID THIS PROJECT I DID NOT KNOW.SO I TOOK A LITTLE LOSS THERE.

I just put some finishing touches on the room by making Butternut outlet covers.

OK,so if you wont tell me how much you charge then maybe I'll ask you how may board feet did it take?

Butternut on endangered list? where? Around here its just about the least expensive hardwood you can get. The waste factor is very high . even at doubling its cost for waste its still inexpensive.
It is a great looking wood finished natural. nice job.!

IN THE NORTHEAST ,VERMONT AND A COUPLE OF OTHER STATES YOU CANT CUT IT DOWN ANYMORE.
AND BELEAVE ME I KNOW ABOUT THE WAST FACTOR THATS WHY I CHOOSE TO DRIVE TO MILLS AND SUPPLYERS AND PICK OUT THE BEST THEY ALL HAD.EATHER WAY IT WAS A BIG WAST (TIME GOING TO GET IT OR ORDERING IT.BUT IT CAME OUT BUITIFUL AT THE END AND EVERYONE WAS VERY HAPPY SO IT IS WHAT IT IS.ALSO THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I WORKED WITH BUTTERNUT AND WOULD NOT CONSIDER IT A HARDWOOD AT ALL IT WAS ONE OF THE SOFTEST WOOD I HAVE WORKED WITH TO DATE. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED

you can get butternut ply.
not from gp or columbia but some of the custom architectural plywood/veneer places have it.next time try a supplier a little further down south like north carolina.might be worth extra freight charge if any.
yeah it's fairly soft but what makes a wood hardwood or soft is whether or not it sheds leaves in the fall/winter.
nice work.

Robert, what an incredible job! Did you design it and how long did it take to install once you had your materials?

Butternut is suffering from a blight thats killing a lot of trees. There is still material available in veneer. I have access to a few flitches
