This piece was designed and built for a client who did not need a large desk but wanted a nice one. The walnut, along with the quartersawn white oak is a very dramatic and deep contrast. The top is a full 1" and the post legs are about 1 7/8" square. This desk was 32" tall. A walnut bead under the horizontal members is not for everyone but I seem to be stuck on them. Thanks for looking.

Nice, I like the bead too, it completes the frame formed by the top and legs.
Thanks Alex ,
Yes the bead sort of pulled it all together, thanks for looking
The curl in the walnut pulls the quarter sawn oak rays together into a nice piece.
Thanks Gerald, to be honest there was much more wild grain then what I saw before lacquering .
Looks great Dennis, simple and clean. I like the slight taper to the legs, it lightens the piece somewhat.
Old Green , Sean ,
Thanks , the legs have an 1/8" taper for about 3 1/2" on all sides , then I belt sanded each taper to make them into a smooth curve instead of a sharp point .
I considered leaving off the center leg , it prolly would have been just as Skookem .
Thanks for looking
Nice work, but you will be having problems with the top!!!I noticed all the growth rings going in the same direction. It is a common mistake.Alternate growth rings one up one down when joining boards together. This will help with cupping, which I gaurantee will happen.Save yourself a huge headache and resaw the joints flip the boards and reglue. You may loose an 1/8 of thickness but it's still alot cheaper than the cost of 5/4 or 6/4 Black Walnut.Keep up the good work!!
Frank , The Walnut I used for the top had almost all sap wood on the one side , so in this case I used the wood so it looked the best .
If this top was not held down flat I would be concerned , this was deliberate on my part .
I'm guessing you saw the method I hold these tops down with .
FYI , I just saw the piece at the clients home and the top is totally flat ,still .I would bet the farm on it .This is one of the best of my work imo because it is original .
