I like the originality of the design even if I struggle with appreciating the asymmetry. I'm interested in the overall dimensions of the buffet in that I'm designing a piece that is also quite shallow as it appears this one is. I'm still working on the proportions of width to depth and I think yours works quite well.

I'm interested in your chair design. I make a lot of chairs at my place of employment. How did you compensate for the lack of rails, stretchers, and corner blocks to maintain horizontal stability? It looks like your seat attaches directly to the back assembly and the front legs directly to the seat. What is the joinery at these points? I love the clean, flowing look. I'm just concerned about the durability.

Where did you get the name. It does not seem related to the 'cloud lift' oriental form as done by Greene and Greene for instance.

Also I join Bob... how do you keep the front legs on???

The set is very striking and stylish. Curious to the joints of the legs to the seat and the seat to the back. Seat wood just edge glued?

Thanks you for you comments. The Cloud is a loose reference to the Asian motif that inspired the Greene Brothers. The front legs of the chairs are flared at the top to increase the surface area of the joint. The seat is also thicker in the joint area and taper from the joint to give the seat a sense of movement. They are joined with double rows of loose tenons running with the grain of the seat. The rear legs also have double rows as well as a relief in the leg on the surfaces receiving the seat. No screws. They seem amazingly strong and have shown no degradation in the 4 years since we built them. The really cool thing was that the entire set was built from a single cherry log that was sourced through Good Hope Hardwoods. It's easy to book match in that scenario.
