Paul we use a spray on sealer stain that has some water in it, sand that and then wipe stain over that before we vinyl seal and topcoat. It's a pain but it leaves no blotches even on hard maple or alder

did you set the fireplace or was it in place before you site measured? That corner set looks a little cockeyed. No offense, your work looks great, it just looks different.

Your right it does look a little wierd, thats because the fireplace sits at a 30 degree angle. It wouldn't fit at a 45 for the window, and the clearance for the TV cabinets wouldn't allow much else.
