Company Name: Sheldon Fine FurnitureThis is a craftsman style solid red oak curio cabinet I finished recently. I don't have a spray booth/room so I rely on good weather for finishing my pieces. In connecticut it's rare, but we had a beautiful last few weekends. It was actually the first time I've gotten into spray finishing. Up until now I've been brushing and hand rubbing all of my pieces and work. Sprayed 2 coats of cherry stain and 3 coats of clear gloss polyurethane. Solid 8th and quarter inch glass panels and solid brass hardware. It's hard to see but there is a dual cabinet lamp on the inside top and it just makes the whole cabinet glow.

Nice looking piece. Did you work from any plans? I was looking to do something similar for a trophy case/display.

Thanks, I got the plan from woodsmith magazine (best imo espec. for plans) but made several modifications that I didn't like. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links here but email me and ille send you the plan link, I think it's like $8 if you aren't a subscriber.

Hi Brian,
Nice looking cabinet. I just built the exact same cabinet out of cherry. Here is a link to a site were I got alot of good tips on the construction. http://www.rockslide.org/curio.html
Nice work.

Very cool stuff. I'de love to say it was fun to build but it wasn't. I call it the cabinet from hell, every problem I ran into I ran into with this one. But I can't hate myself, that's the way you learn, as cabinetry is new to me. I'm not exactly a long time professional and I'm nearly all self taught, so I felt it was a good achievement given the lack of tools I had at the time that I built it and the skills neccesary to complete it. The cherry is a nice touch, I felt the quarter sawn white oak was a bit much and kind of ugly so I went with red oak. Right now I'm oaked out, everything in my house is oak! You can never go wrong with cherry, it always finishes very well just as hard maple does. Wish I had found that site earlier, would of helped a bit! Woodsmith plans don't always explain "everything" (visual learner here) so it was fun building it. Also I changed a lot of it, how things were mounted and bits and pieces here and there I'm sure you noticed. I also didn't do beveled glass, it's god awfully expensive around here. (over $1 an inch in addition to the glass) Anyhow, thanks again :).
