This is one of my first pieces in which I try a number of things I've never done before...
It was inspired by the maple for the doors (all eight were part of a solid block that I sliced and book-matched). The carcus is plum. The legs are maple. The hinges are also plum.
The cabinet is inset into the top of the legs with a loose tenon as well.
Always open to critique both on craftsmanship and design...

Nice cabinet. Which part is the "carcus"?
Cool. Everything looks plum to me! Might have to be screwed to the wall in a house with kids!
Ambiguous post before. The "carcus" is the case of the cabinet. It is made out of plum - of the fruit tree family.
Actually, that's a point of debate. I found the wood in the barn of the house I recently purchased (old 1847 home) which was previously owned by a wood-turner. Everything about the wood points to "plum", but I have it in 9" wide and 9' long boards - which would make it the largest plum tree on record.
So, you can call it "mystery wood."
You're certain it's not cherry? Stone-fruit like plum.
I like it. The door panels look fantastic. How thick are they? Are they reinforced so they don't warp? Nice work.
Nice work. I would have liked to see the cabinet on a much shorter base. I'd agree that wouldn't be plum, it looks great whatever it is though.
