I make these with various woods, inlaid with dyed resins. The smaller versions are open back so they make great indirect lighting, bouncing while light from the fluorescent tubes (LED option) off the wall - sculpture plus functional light. The larger ones have an oval cross-section with 1" slit up the sides for white light.
