I posted this table a few weeks ago and here is an update, I ended up making a new base for this massive table 55" X 102" 2 1/4" thick. The customer wanted the base more like the picture he gave me of a pine table (much smaller) I made the first base a bit more bulkier than the picture because the 300lb top.
I decided to make a new base (45 hours) because I don't want to have an unhappy customer and I know that it will hold the top well even with slimmer legs.

That's a FANTASTIC top. Great color - hope your customer enjoys it for years to come. JD
If it would have been the top they did not like, I would have taken it :)
Did you redo the whole base? From the picture it looks like only the foot were changed.
What did you use for finish?
How do you make massive legs like that? One big piece or glue up of smaller pieces?
Martin, I made the entire base. The finish is pre-cat Lacker.
Mike, The in the original base I used 12/4 stock for the legs, and for the new base I bookmathed 8/4 stock. The center colums are made with 8/4 stock with miter sides and a 12/4 center post.
