Company Name: Brown & BrownLast year about this time I was asked to go to Louisiana to help in the relief efforts for Hurrican Katrina. Along with 10 other men and many generous donations from our city and surrounding areas we gathered somewhere around $15-20,000 in food water and supplies. With some of the money we bought 8 brand new Stihl chainsaws and off we went. As we were on our way we learned from our Fema contact that Hurrican Rita was hitting and relief was also needed there so we redirected our convoy and headed toward Dequincy, LA where we would base our efforts. As a wood lover I have never seen so many beautiful trees completely destroyed. We worked long hours for 7 days distributing food and water, but mostly running chainsaws in very dangerous areas. Rooftops... To make a long story short, at one home as we went door to door offering help, we encountered a beautiful cedar and cleared it from the families front porch. As we started to leave the homeowner said, "take anything you want, we really appreciate the help" I talked to a few of the men on the team and they agreed that it would be neat to take a few of the large cedar logs and take them home, if I wanted them. I agreed and 3-4 days later we began the 889 mile trip home with cedar that would have been toast. I had the logs milled and just recently i made my first project from the wood. Here is my Hurrican Rita Cedar Chest.
Brass lifts, hinges and lid support have been ordered and will be here soon.

Will,
The chest is beautiful. It is very meaningful that you could help the needy and give a grand old tree a second life. It will always serve as a symbol. Thanks for posting it.

The knots resemble hurricane movement.
Very nice cedar chest.
I have some clear cedar 1x 12's from hurricane Isabel.
