I'm thinking that's a $9,000 job you did for $9,000 and charged them $7,000. Been there.

I'm also puzzled by the dollar amounts. Is the 22% loss a point of pride? Did you leave 2K on the table? Would 9K have fit the room better? Is the point to make a profit or to compete at any cost?

I quoted the job at 9K. The client's budget was 7K. My finisher wanted 2K to do the finish. I knocked of the 2K and did the finish myself. The point at this stage in the game is to make the mortgage payment and eat. Also, this particular client can open up important doors and I considered it an investment in advertising to do this job, even at a "loss". Material costs were in the area of 2.6K. I am interested to see if my original quote would be considered reasonable by my peers. Thanks.

As far as fitting the room, it is too big, but the clients are selling and building a new home where this will fit better.

Is $2,000 too much for finishing this project? Was it just a clearcoat?

$2,000 might have been a little high. But, my shop is small and it was cumbersome to do it, there. It is maple stained w/fruitwood and hand applied wipe on poly.

This looks very odd and out of place to me inside the actual bedroom. Is the window partially covered up? It looks like it belongs in a large walk-in closet. Why would you wipe poly on anything this big?

It is a bit out of place in this room, but it is what my client wanted. It's about 16" from the window. I used wipe on poly because I am not a finisher by trade and didn't know what else to use. I have not had good results using a brush on poly.
