Hey Gustav,
Nice use of live edge! What's that puppy weigh? IMO maybe you could have cut a larger radius on the legs at the bottom. I think this would give the table a lighter look?
Your correct on the weight. Nice tornado shelter, trust me. Add to that I did a metal channel frame which you can not see to assure the top slab stays flat. The bottom arch, I was sawing into a beautiful curly and figured area. Didn't have the heart to remove more material.
Nice subtle lines on the legs, beautiful book matched Walnut top and a great finish. What is the finish, BTW.
Thanks for the nice comments. I used lockwood power dyes 2 colors mixed to stain the walnut. Then waterlux for the top coat. I used that because it's used on flooring, so I figured it would be durable and water resistant. Also they claim you can recoat it at a future time. So I am hopeful that claim works. Table is in use. So far so good.
Great work and beautiful table. Can you please explain to me how the metal channel you mentioned for keeping the top flat, actually works? Thanks.
Metal channel is 2" by 1.5" angle iron 3/16" thick. I made up a rectangle the size of the skirt under the table. Then filled in with cross members about 16" spacing. I then milled holes through the channel with slots to allow for wood movement of the slab. Then lagged the metal frame to the slab. My hope is to keep it flat and not allow it to warp or cup.
