I designed these 2 tables. I call the large one “Circle of Life” Shows the stages of a butterfly. This one is a Summer Scene. The smaller table is a Fall scene. I was asked to build these tables. The only request for a design was it had to have a Gingko tree leaf motif to it.
I have another Craftsman who is a blacksmith. He designed and fabricated the metal bases. Myron Hanson.
I hand sketched the patterns. Then drew them into Coral Draw. The field was cut out with a laser. The small table all the leaves and branches were cut by hand with a fret saw.
The large table, I cut everything out using a laser. Which is NOT as easy as it seems upfront. Lot of issues to overcome and learn to cope with.
Woods are wavy Bubinga. Curly/quilted Maple. Burl Walnut for the tree parts. Then various dyed and natural veneers. I also tried another new thing for me. On the butterfly. I undercut the pieces. Then filled the voids with a crushed stone. I like the effect.
