Bandsaw Band Cleaner/Brusher

Listing #180   Listed on: 02/04/2017
I sharpen my own Woodmizer bands and sometimes cleaning them can be a pain. First I soak them in a Simple Green 50/50 solution for a few minutes while I set another band then I pull it out and soak the next one. I would then use my cordless drill with a wire brush on it to clean the band--all the while dreaming up a "better way". I just acquired 16 bans for my Laguna 18" bandsaw that were very rusty and presto--I had the motivation to do something new: I outfitted an old motor I had with a wire wheel , came up with a feed roller system to pull the band under the wire wheel--similar to an old washing machine ringer, added an adjustable platen and some guides and I was ready to try cleaning some bands. It works very well. It takes about 30 seconds to do one side and then I invert the band and remount it and do the other side.. Copy and past this URL into your browser and watch a 2 minute video of it in operation. If I can figure out how to reduce its size I will embed it below later.
