Does anyone know if you can use auto paint like basecoat on wood and cover with vinyl sealer and then cat. varnish?
I have a customer that wants a solid color on some furniture. Like dark maroon.

I don't know about the auto paint. But why don't you use a pigmented lacquer?

Three different finish products sprayed on top of each other? What could go wrong? Just have the conversion varnish tinted.

Where could I get it tinted?
I buy the CV on line.
Is there anything I can tint it with?

You don't have any paint stores around you? What brand is the finish?
From contributor Pa
You are using Conversation Varnish? Most shops I know of use Lacquers, Pre- catalyzed lacquers if possible. Sherwin Williams and just about any paint store will help you. They will mix from paint colors or custom match if necessary.
Spraying furniture is a tough way to begin.

I've been spraying furniture for over 30 years :-)

Lacquer is old school.
I used it for more than 20 years.
After using conversion varnish I can't think
of one single benefit of lacquer.
I'll never go back.
CV beats it in every way.
