The gantry ball bearing and guyed has a lot of gunk and dray old grease
What do I use to clean it up, can I use WD40? also is there any supplier in California for Shell Alvania RL2 or some grease used for the cnc maintenance?

You don't mention what machine you have, but for mine I use an aerosol brake cleaner that I get from the local auto parts store. Rubber doesn't like it though.

Do not use wd-40, it is hell on your bearings for sure. little bit of acetone is good, even a mild lacquer thinner as it will evaporate rapidly and not create corrosive issues
