I bought a used SCM CNC a few years back when there was a huge down turn in the economy. It is a nesting machine and I love it for cutting sheet goods and cabinet parts, but I feel like I am driving a Ferrari and don't know how to get out of first gear.
These machines are amazing and have so much potential and so many uses, but how does one learn all these things. I read the posts and see the work that James and many of the other contributors are doing and I am in awe. How did you folks learn all this, did you teach your self?
I was wondering are there any courses or training that is available? I read that SCM offers some training in Goergia I think, it is quite expensive for me to get there but is it worth it from any that have attended.
I apologize if these seem like simple and stupid questions, but I would like to learn how to utilize the CNC to its potential. Whether it be training or software?

Software,, Vectric, Artcam, Rhino. Vectric allows you to download the software and learn to use it long before you buy it (Everything I do is Vectric.) I am going to speak on this at the IWF on the 20th with a Panel discussion for the CMA at 12:30.
Vectric will let you run a test file so you can run it on yopu machine and make sure post processor and all work well before you spend a dime. the place to start is on their website under training,, start with the videos for the VCARVEPRO software (far more powerful than the name implies) the VCP program is the basics of the vectric engine, you will make files learn vcarve texture and a few other tricks. once you get a grip then you upgrade to aspire where the real 3D takes place less than 2 grand and you are off to the races !!

I send a lot of jobs to code from Cabinet Vision. I cut a 7000.00 die wall, corian top and laminate topped system in 2 hours yesterday. It is already standing up, the corian tops and p-lam tops are ready to ship.
What software are you using ? Yes, the software from SCM and all the others is great, but do not allow what James or us do what we need and design. You need software. I don't have vectric, but I am purchasing it shortly.
