Filled In Locks On Antique Desk

01/21/2013

From original questioner:

I am working on an antique desk. Somewhere along the way a drawer lock was removed and every thing filled in. I am a refinisher so this is not really my thing however I am ready to learn. Any help would be appreciated.

you may call any finisher available in your locality... or you want to do it yourslef?

I'm not sure what your question is??? Are you trying to blend in the fill that was used on the lock? Are you trying to remove the fill and replace the lock?

It will be a lot easier for guys to help you if we know what your trying to do. More info is necessary, and a pic or two certainly wouldn't hurt.

I apologize. This is about installing the new lock that I bought from Horton. I am just looking for something that I have not thought of and afterwards I would say "Why didn't I think of that?"
This has nothing to do with finishing.
Thank you.

is it filled in with wood putty?
maybe you could take the biggest part out by drilling it out. stay away from the edge. and then try to use a razor blade and dentil pick.

some pics would help
good luck................nicko

You just drill out the wood, but make sure you don't affect the edges and make a lock protrusion for the lock to set in the notch created by you and fix it with some some screw. If you still having problem then you may contact the service providers in your locality or contact an online vendor name everything outdoor furniture, which would provide you better solution to your problem.

Thanks
