Pocket Door Hardware For Ent. Unit

02/09/2015

From original questioner:

Last time I needed to do pocket doors on a cabinet, (which was some years back), I used Accuride hardware. Wondering what you guys are using for pocket doors these days. Ideally something a notch or 2 above the Accuride set.

I'm designing a cabinet that will have two pairs of bi-fold doors. My first thought was a pair of accuride pocket door slides and a piano hinge for the bi-folds. I'd like to find something a bit more polished though. I see Hawa has a "Folding Turnaway" system for this…anyone tried it? Any other recommendations for hardware?

thanks,
JeffD

Last I did I used the accuride 1234 and usually use the hafele Pramatic 35mm bore bifolding hinge (3) which has integrated gap adjustment.
Works about as well as anything I've used over the years.

The Accuride pocket door hardware works well on small doors. If you want a step or two above the Accuride, especially for large doors, the new Hafele Hawa Concepta pivoting/pocketing door hardware is excellent. I agree with Jim regarding the Aximat folding door hinges, #343.91.600 from Hafele for joining folding doors. For larger doors the Hawa Concepta takes the place of the Turn-away and has all the adjustment in the front.

Thanks for the info guys. I put this on the back burner for a bit but now I have to get back on it and get a quote out.

I looked at the Concepta and while that is pretty cool, it would almost double the cost of this project. $4k for a couple pocket cabinet doors is just a bit too much for most of my clients.

The Aximat hinges look like they'll work nicely. What I'm wondering now though is how to manage the bi-folds so they're not flopping while you slide them back? I would have thought someone would have come up with a nice hardware solution for these types of cabinets by now? Well, at least a somewhat affordable hardware solution. Any tricks for keeping the doors together? I'm thinking maybe a light duty magnet and plate mounted the the backs of the doors to keep them together when folded.

It seems like such a simple project but the more I think about it the more potential issues I think I'm seeing.

thanks,

The Aximat hinge has a spring which keeps the doors in the open ( flat) position and in the folded position.

Thanks Dan! I didn't get that from the description, (though probably hadn't had my coffee yet). Sounds like just the ticket!
