Technique For Herringbone Veneering

10/29/2012

From original questioner:

This is a technique that is new to me, so I have no idea on what is the easiest way to do it.

We are using 1.5mm (1/8") oak veneer, so it has a bit of rigidity to it. I thought that we could stitch long lengths (8ft) together then cut them to 45 degrees and flip every other one over to create the pattern we want. My boss says we need to cut every piece to length with the angled ends and tape them together as one piece then tape 3 of them together to create the herringbone pattern. I think both ways will work but does anyone have a better idea that we havent thought of?

Thanks in advance Benn

Hi Benn,

The way you suggest is easier and your final layup will be much more accurate for alining seams.
