Walnut? Is there some place you can scrape the finish off and use a cabinet scraper to get to the raw wood? Walnut has a distinctive smell. Also the natural color will help.

i would say walnut. has some nice figure in it too. look for quilted walnut

It is lightly figured, plain-sliced Walnut, center-balance matched.

Don't forget about butternut aka white walnut. Same grain as walnut but just about the color your after.

Definitely older walnut. Orange shellac as a seal coat will duplicate that color pretty well.
