my shop forman likes to make the doors and the face frames and the drawer boxes first then I get my second payment. I just think it takes a long time for second payment.
The owner (myself) likes to make face frames and boxes and get second payment its a lot faster for cash flow - or does it all work out to be the same at the end?
how do you owners do it
thanks for the in put

Every job is different depending on my bank account, the size, complexity and duration of job, and the client (slow to pay return client contractors for example)
I usually say something like
$1000 at signing
30-40% to start work
20-30% upon progress
20-40% upon finisher pick up at our shop
10% upon delivery or completion (i say delivery)
Specify your late fees. I've been putting 5-10% a month. I am not a bank and can't afford not to get paid for months on end.

I guess what im asking when you start a kitchen what parts you start first.

Personally, I order the doors and drawers. I make the FF first, then cabinet box, then hang/install doors drawers/fronts. There's no right way in my opinion.

I see the benefit in doing frames and doors first since it takes up a lot less floor space.
As far as affecting the payment schedule…..well just change your payment schedule! On something like a kitchen that's in say….the $30k+ neighborhood, and scheduled in advance, I split into 5 payments. A deposit to finalize plans and order materials, 2nd payment once we're ready to start fabrication, 3rd payment when the bulk of fabrication is complete and we're ready to start finishing, 4th payment upon delivery of boxes, and final once the project is installed and 100% complete.
Smaller projects I use fewer payments, and really small projects under say $2k or so I often just do 50/50.
good luck,
