Panel processing for other shops1/27/18
Im sure this has to have been covered but have spent a bunch of time with every search string I could think of here but havent come up with much.
Wondering how others handle this. We (I) have never been an hourly shop. I have always priced our work by the job. I feel that hourly work doesnt allow you to be rewarded for being good/expedient at what you do and our customers want a fixed number coming into the gate with fixed variables.
I have several shops interested in panel processing some of which would would include minimal file work (quickly generating code from clean and layered files) and others would require more in-depth development of customer specific libraries and machining templates.
Ive been trying to get my head around how to handle a 3 sheet job as compared to a 23 sheet job. Do we build pricing by the panel, by the hour once we've calculated the nest and machine/handling time (shop rate).
We have our scale factors in pretty accurately to where we can trust the panel processing times in the software for a given job.
We've never really courted any of this type of work but it looks to be a decent option.
Any input or a heads up on past posts is appreciated.
We are in the same boat. Interested in seeing input form other shops.
I try to handle this by charging $5.00 per cabinet to set up the files.
I don't worry about it when they send me dxf's of sheet ready to cut.
I also spend a fair bit of time trying to get faster. When I do, I up the hourly rate so the cost is the same.
Could use minimums per sheet.
I use a fixed time for load/unload.
