Hi- I saw your message and thought I'd give my experience. I use almost entirely waterbased / waterbourne products in my work. I haven't ever used spray solvent based but have used solvent based urethanes and polyurethanes prior. I have used both Sherwin Williams and Target Coatings. Both I have found to be very good in general. Sherwin Williams has a good waterbourne Polyurethane and have a product line called Kem Aqua for pigmented and clears. I use this exclusively for my cabinets and architectural finishes. It levels out beautifuly, sands like a dream, and dries hard in a very short amount of time. The performance data is very similar to a CV from what I can tell, although its hard to come by. I also can get locally and at a great price point as the SW rep has priced it aggressively. I have used the Target Coatings production lacquer and the pigmented lacquer which I would not recommend in an apples to apples comparison with Kem Aqua. Being said, it might be a challenge to get Kem Aqua locally and Target will ship direct. Now for other coatings that are more durable and chemical resistant, Sherwin Williams is lacking significantly. Target has CV, Polyurethane, a high build lacquer, Alkyd, and Polycarbonate in their lineup and all with options to crosslink. I stock clear and pigmented Kem Aqua for general use and use Target polycarbonate for all my difficult use finishes. Jeff Weiss is pretty easy to get in contact with at Target and he is very helpful.
I have heard of options from valspar which I think you can get from Richlieu, SW has Sayerlack in its industrial stores, General Finishes has some options but all seem expensive, and Fuhr but I don't know where to find that.
