Yes resin is vaguely trendy at the moment, but I think it's interesting, requiring a different set of skills & tools. I've never understood the "it's not real woodworking" gatekeeping vitriol espoused by so-called purists. There's room for everyone's tastes.

I agree theres room for everyone Jared but the conception that encapsulation completely negates wood movement is crazy. You will never stop the process. Boat builders have known this for years. I guess this is planned obsolescence of an entry door, counter top, conference table, which makes sense in todays society. If your cool trendy door/table lasts 5-10 years and you then have to rip it out/send it to the landfill because its delaminating, suffering from moisture inclusion, failing on many fronts, it creates yet another revenue stream for the one who then is asked to build a viable long term solution.

Its wonderful people have vast amounts of disposable cash to pour into such an endeavor.

I wonder what the epoxy will look like after a year of sun exposure. Are there UV stable epoxies?

I'm not impressed. Neat process, but, yes I agree the gawds that control wood movement will come in to play on those panels.

Another example of people making things that do not know the fundamentals of what they are doing. No history, no research, no simple evolution. They will first stand back and proudly admire their work, impressed with themselves, then wonder why the warranty problems, then the failures, then self doubt will overrun them, then "wood is no good, terrible material to have to work with...." I have seen it all before. They will be selling insurance before long.

I am sure there are enough people wanting real wood, real craft to keep many of us busy for a lifetime.

Well, woodworker or not, doesn't matter. What is lacking are at least two things, as I see it.
There is no history, no evolution to these doors, or the process that “created” them. I would say all doors that are considered “good” by architects, designers, and ultimately, homeowners have a history of development on both technical and aesthetic fronts.
Secondly, the doors are not shown full size. I would judge by partial photos that the rail layouts are off, making the doors appear clumsy and “off”. Those recurved rails are difficult to layout, and these are a good example of a missed opportunity to get a difficult design right.x

I suggest going to that moron’s website and seeing some of their work. I doubt they will be selling insurance anytime soon.

I applaud these "influencers" willingness to literally do anything for cash and making it by the truckload. Its a new world we live in, created by the big box super stores getting the consumer accustomed to disposable living and things that dont last. Its a leap Ive never been willing to make. There are channels out there that use to make this epoxy stuff that basically dont make much work anymore because their "brand" supports them now. Is what it is.

The simple fact is you very rarely hear about the failures and dissatisfied customers and its not because they dont exist. They are out there if you dig a bit.

I took a look around their IG feed and while not a fan of the epoxy fill I was impressed with their shop, creativity and marketing acumen. I’ve built enough ski’s to know they put some thought into the panels for exterior. As Al says they will not be selling insurance soon.

I simply associate it all with the fact that people will do anything, fill a fad, simply for financial gain regardless of repercussion (mainly) to their customers, or themselves. Repercussions to the shop is fine... we've all seen the post on numerous forums from the ones who've made work that self destructs and are now under threat of legal action and in a panic long after realizing they were not profitable to begin with. Its not about some romance of "the craft" or because its not wood. 90% of my work now is solid surface, 3form, laminate, MDF,.. its what my market requires.

I could make a bunch of river tables but when I explain to my customers the cost, that I cant guarantee longevity, and the other issues, they walk away.

Again,.. its a different world. While I find it difficult to swallow these things are no different than women on onlyfans selling their worn/unwashed undergarments, bathtub water, bathtubwater they've urinated in for more, and they are millionaires.

The shop in the post undoubtedly has enough revenue to either re-make or refund the dud's which is what it is. I was making resin encapsulated "crafts" in the 70's. It was a whole hog fad/christmas gift for millions. Its nothing new.

That company is located in Canada, they are one of the best known companies for epoxy tables in Canada & the US. They also make decent YouTube videos.

As others have remarked they have a really good shop. They are also good craftsman & smart. Typically people(amateur & professional) make every attempt to conserve epoxy when making tables. They end up having to go back and fill little defects and missed spots. These guys did the math and decided that by substantially overfilling the whole slab(encapsulating) then facing all of the extra material off in the cnc, they could completely skip that long tedious step of filling. They also have some special tables that are refigerated, so the epoxy can sit for days slowly curing. They are smart.

Just because you don't like epoxy tables, you shouldn't bag everyone who likes them or builds them.

It appears the resin/wood panels are stopped into a conventional doweled frame, so they are at least replaceable and not likely to cause a structural failure. UV breakdown in exterior exposure is certainly a concern. One would hope that sufficient experience has led the makers to use dry material - they do appear to mill the cast wood themselves and have numerous exterior door
and resin/wood projects under their belt. To each his own.

I am not a fan of that door, for both construction and for looks.
I will say there are people willing to pay obscene amounts of money for the tables with the epoxy in them, I imagine doors will be the same.
As for the video that company has been building solid wood doors and frames for years and years, it is for sure a second generation family business. They have been extremely successful. The father for sure knows all the ins and outs of Wood movement, the son maybe not so much. I can’t comment as I honestly don’t know.
