Chargers in a bar top?

I am trying to get my local brewery to replace the old walnut stained, rotary Oak bartop and Chicago bar rail with an upgraded top in Maple, with the Keith Richard’s bar rail. And built in phone chargers, The phone chargers are a bit out of my league. I would prefer a continuous strip of the top that would be available whenever a phone was placed in this continuous “hot zone.” But It think they would have to be right next to each other, a5 about 10 chargers per 5 l/f of bartop. 2 per foot. Could I still get a charge at one every foot? For aesthetic reasons, there would be nothing in the bartop ditself that would indicate where the chargers are.

My other quandary is wiring. The chargers I have seen are all USB plug ins. I would like to have simple chained up female USB’s in one line, and plug in the charger and be done. But I don't see anything like this in my searches.

HI David, if you are open to wireless charger, perhaps a removeable veneer or thin cover with a charging icon for each unit will suffice both the charging and service access need, without degrading the charging time too much. You will want to get them out first of course to see the material/slot shape/cover/charging performance. The placement positions need to be considered also - I wouldn't want the drinks to spill on my device as the bartender hands over my drink. Ha! It sounds like a fun project!

I think they need to be close enough to saturate the area so that a phone set down about anywhere will get charged. And all access from below to prevent spills from getting to it.

Also, the idea that it all be 100% invisible is important. I envision a 24’ long usb wiring harness that would feed 12 chargers, with easy connectors. Where could I find this, or have it made?

I would build it as 3/16” solids on top of 3/4 MDF, with 3/16 on the bottom. Hard maple strips 1-3/4” wide, with one full width 90 degree turn. Bar rail would be a 3” diameter solid rail set just above the top.

I used a 3" round rail, set low to the top, Enough to hold onto, but not to cut into your forearms, etc. The bartender told me that when the Stones stayed there for two nights, Mr Richards spent most of his waking hours in the bar, and commented that the bar rail was uncommonly comfortable, yet substantial enough to hold onto, when needed. A complement from no higher authority.
